The real wealth of Bionaz is its natural, tough, wild and virgin environment which has extraordinary wildlife.
There are Ibex and chamois that live in the rock faces, deer who bell at dawn in the woods around the villages, stoats, marmots, hares and white partridges that you will see appearing and disappearing when you along the paths. There are golden eagles and falcons , owls and cocks who break the silence of the night with their crows.
The Alpine flora is particularly special. There are big flowering anemones and purple gentians, delicate cushions of silene and alpine androsace, campanulas, cotton grass and aster which colour the alpine pastures and the moraines. The variety of flora which colour and textures accompany the hikers by brightening up the landscape of the high mountains. Such a variety of wildlife is difficult to find elsewhere in the valley of Aosta.
For the one who likes linking the passion of walking with photographic interest and for the one who wants to gather information or pictures about what he meets along the maintained and marked out paths in Bionaz there is plenty of literature available to guide you.
In winter, you are able to walk with snowshoes and to follow the tracks of the animals. This really brings you close to nature.
